Friends of the Burlington Northern Railroad
2010 Convention and Membership Meeting
June 16-19
Galesburg, IL

GENERAL INFORMATION

Banquet Speaker
Richard Danielson, Galesburg Terminal Superintendant will join us for dinner, then speak and answer questions afterwards.
Banquet
The banquet Saturday evening will be held at the Best Western Prairie Inn. It will be served buffet style with entrees of roast beef, herb crusted chicken and vegetable lasagna. Starch choices will be mashed potatoes, rice pilaf or potato salad, and vegetables will be Normandy blend or corn. Cost will be $25 per person.
Tour of the Galesburg Yard
BNSF will give us a guided tour of the facilities. We will all need to go together on the bus. Steel-toed shoes, hard hats, eye and ear protection are not necessary, but please dress appropriately to be in a rail facility.
TP&W Tour
We have confirmed that we will be able to tour the TP&W Railroad’s East Peoria Yard on Friday morning. The TP&W is presently part of the Railtex family, after initially being independent and then purchased and spun off by ATSF before the BNSF merger. East Peoria is their main yard and shops, and is an excellent yard for modelers to appreciate. We will be given a history of the railroad as well as a yard and shops tour.
Amtrak Ride to Chicago
We will all ride to Chicago together on the morning Illinois Zephyr, Train #380. This leaves Galesburg @ 7:37 AM and arrives in Chicago @ 10:42 AM. The day in Chicago will be free to train watch, etc. We will discuss details on Wednesday evening. Return can be on the California Zephyr, Train #5 @ leaving Chicago @ 2 PM arriving in Galesburg @ 4:38 PM, San Francisco Chief, Train #3 leaving Chicago @ 3:15 PM and arriving in Galesburg @ 5:50 PM, or the evening Illinois Zephyr, Train #383 leaving Chicago @ 5:55 PM and arriving Galesburg @ 8:42 PM.

You will need to make reservations on your own and Amtrak recommends you make them as soon as possible.

Member Slide/Digital Photo/Video shows
Bring slides, digital photos, and video you'd like to share for member shows Wednesday and Friday evenings. We'll provide a slide projector, computer equipment, and a screen.
Friday Railfanning
Friday afternoon is presently being planned as an open day for railfanning. This may be in Galesburg and the surrounding area, or in the Peoria or Chillicothe area as we will be near those locations on the TP&W tour. We will plan this more fully on Wednesday evening.
Hotel Rooms
The convention is being held at the Best Western Prairie Inn in Galesburg (309-343-7151). Refer to the FOBNR room block when making reservations. The room block will be held at the convention rate of $89.95 per night until May 16.
